The 2018 BMW X2 puts a priority on agility and racy design over mundane things like, say, rear headroom and cargo space. Based on the boxier X1, the X2 is roughly 3 inches shorter and sits nearly 3 inches lower than its more practical sibling. Power comes from a 228-hp turbocharged four-cylinder paired to an eight-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive comes along for the ride should you choose to upgrade to the xDrive model. Brisk off the line and agile through corners, the X2 is a delight to drive. Just don’t expect tall adults seated in the second row to enjoy it for too long. The X2 is a new addition to the BMW lineup for the 2018 model year. While the basic structure is borrowed from the pre-existing X1, the X2 is meant to evoke a leaner and meaner approach to crafting a subcompact luxury SUV. From the outside looking in, it’s hard to argue that BMW didn’t nail the aggressive look. |
